Mitochondria are classically more popular as the powerhouse of an organism. However, it has started making strides in various research areas of human concern in the last two decades. Large numbers of people in India, particularly children, are affected with mitochondrial diseases. However, there is not much awareness about the disease among the public. Therefore, they need to spread knowledge about mitochondrial diseases and its implications. In India, several research groups are working towards the understanding of mitochondrial biology and the molecular basis of mitochondrial disorders. Therefore, it is pivotal to interact with the scientific community on a common platform.
The Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), in collaboration with the Society for Mitochondrial Research and Medicine, India (SMRM) is organizing the 9th Annual Conference of the SMRM on the theme “Mitochondria in Biology and Medicine” during 21 — 23 June 2023. This conference will include academicians, researchers, and clinicians dealing with physiology, toxicology, biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology of mitochondria-associated diseases. Hence, this conference will provide an excellent opportunity to discuss the current status and trends in mitochondrial biology and medicine.
